Sohila Zadran, a graduate student at a school I'm familiar with, recently took her thesis defense. She claims to graduate in 2 years. Hmmm. How did she manage that ? Some say that she cheated her way through grad school. Did she ? Well...I certainly won't be surprised if she did. Her Westerns did look sketchy. But I heard she was thrown a screwball at her defense by another student - a question that I've heard "ruined her career" ! Wow ! I really want to know what that was ! And how her career got screwed...
If anyone out there has any insight about her screwed defense, comment here ! Also, if you generally hate her and her guts, comment here !

She is so fucking hot, I dont even listen to what she says most of the time. Looks like she can base her career just on her damn body. Fuck, I'd buy it. She is going to Caltech and has a Berkeley degree, so it does look like the babe does knows her shit. I also heard she can be a bitch though. I mean I dont hate her guts, I generally just want to be in them.
ReplyDeletehey mother fucker poppulli and alextoric tell me how you dared to says like this rubbish words against our Sohila Zadran You’re a fucking and son of the bitch, fuck you! Ya that’s my message to you, fuck you and suck my an afghani cock.I GOT YOUR MAIL AND THE ONLY ANSWER I WILL GIVE TO YOU IS THIS:
DeleteYOU REAP WHERE YOU DID NOT SOW
You and the one who grow up in your own family as bisexual for ever you bastered man, foolish man , poor man, you will remain in eating shit in your life, you are calling me a Zadran well God will George you with your words.
in fact I’m in there to fuck your asshole, but have nothing to tell you God will reward you with your selffishness mind.back to the sender not for me because i trust and believe in God and his is with me forever. Pleases, i have told you to go away from this business i don't need you any more, you are a hopeless man i haven't see for life. get out from here both and want apologize from Dr.Sohila Zadran
I was at her defense, and they asked her about an inhibitor and it sounded like she knew what it was. She is young and a woman in science. So naturally people are going to think her a bitch or a man toy. She helped me get a summer fellowship to do research and helped me out a lot. I like her too, she's real. She say things that everyone else is to afraid of saying.
ReplyDeleteWhat is fair to say, is that she received different treatment than any other grad student I have ever heard of. Who gets allowed to receive a PhD in 2 years??
ReplyDeleteI guess it must have been the fact that she wasn't really held accountable in her classes. That's what I hear happened, and that she was virtual no show at once of the required classes per the course requirements of the program. So course work that other students need to do is just brushed aside so that she could focus on lab work.
But what of that? What if she wasn't really required to do the work on her own, and use data that was already available? That would certainly make it easy to earn a PhD in 2 years time.
It's really not her fault though. She just got away with what the people in charge allowed her to.
And there's the rope.
Wow! Whoever made this blog must have no life! Why are people so jealous of a minority woman doing well in a predominantly male oriented field? So she worked her ass off...graduated from UC Berkeley and finished her Phd in two years at USC...now at Caltech...and to top it all off she's freaking gorgeous! Maybe it's cause she doesn't waste time making ridiculous blogs about hardworking people! Her ambition is really inspiring and her research is promising. She's been trained at America's most leading institutions, we should actually blame the schools for making her so damn smart and her Afghan parents for her perfect genetics.
ReplyDeletethe school and her adviser let her get her phd in 2 years, better still, in 1 year and 10 months or possibly less than that; record time by all measures at USC. Oh! and congrats on having all the old farts of neuroscience on her thesis committee. her first paper literally went through "THE" "back-door" ... the oldest neurosci fart at usc (just retired) sponsored it and this means it was not reviewed... fart at No accountability, and no shame.. all admin at usc know that her written quaks were written by her boss... and wtf with all the fake publicity on the web and at the usc website.. well, wait and see how she will do in caltech.. if she went through her phd in less than 2 years, maybe she will be done postdoc(k)ing her ass in 1 year
ReplyDeletewhether good looking bitch or not .. she desperately needs to be laid...
To the [Dumbass] person above me: JEALOUS! JEALOUS! JEALOUS!!! Shame on you for blaming everyone else (i.e. basically the whole fuckin school!) but yourself for your lack in integrity in your own work. You should be ashamed of calling your superior an "old fart." Who the fuck says that? Hello! Its not fuckin 1999! That "old fart" that you mentioned earlier has done so much more than your ugly ass will do in seven lifetimes.
ReplyDeleteBasically you were saying that you are the best and everyone else gives ass because they live under your shadow of wisdom and greatness. Yeeaaahh right BITCH! You are the BITCH, because from your comment above...people can easily agree that your only at USC because you were PH(d)icking your way through the program. What happened? Your "old fart"...I mean "lover" stopped calling for quickies up the ass?
You know what, I would love to meet you...please verify your name and where you are so I can personally come and ask you how much your ass hurts from all that anal. You have the audacity to sit behind a computer and write all that crap about a girl that doesn't even know you...but lets see if you have the balls to come out and stand behind what you say.
Your sad very sad. tsk! tsk! She has a lot of true friends that know her personally, you don't fuckin know her so you have no right to talk about her you creep!
I'm at Caltech, and I hear nothing but great things about her success there. She's making it big and the publicity is fueling her aspiring research.
More power to DR. SOHILA ZADRAN! <3 her hahaha! that must be painful to read. HOOLLLLAAA!I'm out-
Oh yeah.........
FUCK YOU!!!
well.. as expected she's done postdocking her ass at Caltech' Paul Patterson's lab in less than a year... look for her next round postdocking at NCI/NIH..... expected stay: 6 months..
ReplyDeleteI heard she was diagnosed with cancer (Hodgkin's lymphoma) this year, and joined NCI. So why dont just leave her alone, folks.
ReplyDeleteI am very sorry to know that. I hope she will recover fully and soon. My point was about her science (and all know that her labmates did most of the work in her articles and that's exactly why they hated her) .... cause she got undeserved credit and publicity for their work. Patterson's lab is also different from Baudry's lab and she must have felt the difference and the true heat of competition there; I believe this was an additional factor that pushed her to leave Caltech. Since she has NIH postdoctoral fellowship, she can go into any lab as long as they don't have to pay her. I heard Baudry's lab is shutting down too... He's leaving USC and it seems he could not recover from all the havoc she created in the lab. His students hated him because he favored her and all went down the drain. No students, no work being done... no grants... no lab... bye bye Baudry...

ReplyDeleteI hear she was fired from Caltech because they found she did not know anything and got her phd by fraud. Loser
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of pathetic loser makes a blog apologizing to themselves? Yeah - she made a blog posing as Yu-Tien and apologizing for this blog. Poor Yu-Tien...While it does seem like someone from Baudry lab made this blog, it was definitely not Yu-Tien.
ReplyDeleteHow self-absorbed is Sohila to think she's some kind of genius? Look at all the crap she wrote on the apology blog. If she's such a genius, why isnt she at caltech anymore? Why is she at UCLA? I'm sure she'll be fired from there again soon too. Such a fraud!
She should be stripped of her phd since baudry did everything for her anyway. This proves no good comes from false publicity. She doesnt even deserve a masters degree. She really doesnt know anything. Future employers beware of this fraud...
In the central nervous system, two calpain isoforms are highly expressed: calpain1 and calpain2. Here, we show for the first time that activation of the calpain isoform, calpain2, is a necessary event in hippocampal synaptic plasticity and in learning and memory. We developed a fluorescence resonance energy transfer-based animal model to monitor in vivo calpain activation in single cells and in real time. Additionally, utilizing a novel rabies virus glycoprotein-chimeric peptide, which enabled the transvascular delivery of small interfering RNA to the brain against calpain2, we down-regulated the calpain2 isoform in vivo. Calpain2 gene silencing eliminated long-term potentiation and impaired learning and memory. Our results not only identify the calpain2 isoform as a critical mediator in learning and memory but also highlight an innovative, highly efficient calpain2-targeting peptide capable of isoform-specific gene silencing in the brain. We anticipate these innovative technologies and our better understanding of the calpain machinery, particularly of the calpain2 isoform, will have substantial influence on future translational studies, attracting considerable interest in the use of calpain models and calpain-specific inhibitors in the development of therapeutics
ReplyDeleteThe family of calcium-dependent neutral proteases, calpains, was discovered more than 30 years ago, but their functional roles in the nervous system under physiological or pathological conditions still remain unclear. Although calpain was proposed to participate in synaptic plasticity and in learning and memory in the early 1980s, the precise mechanism regarding its activation, its target(s) and the functional consequences of its activation have remained controversial. A major issue has been the identification of roles of the two major calpain isoforms present in the brain, calpain-1 and calpain-2, and the calcium requirement for their activation, which exceeds levels that could be reached intracellularly under conditions leading to changes in synaptic efficacy. In this review, we discussed the features of calpains that make them ideally suited to link certain patterns of presynaptic activity to the structural modifications of dendritic spines that could underlie synaptic plasticity and learning and memory. We then summarize recent findings that provide critical answers to the various questions raised by the initial hypothesis, and that further support the idea that, in brain, calpain-2 plays critical roles in developmental and adult synaptic plasticity.
ReplyDelete17-Beta-estradiol (E2) is a steroid hormone involved in numerous brain functions. E2 regulates synaptic plasticity in part by enhancing NMDA receptor function and spine density in the hippocampus, resulting in increased long-term potentiation and facilitation of learning and memory. As the calcium-dependent neutral protease, calpain, is also involved in these processes, we tested whether E2 could activate calpain and examined the functional consequences of E2-mediated calpain activation in hippocampus. Calpain activity was analyzed by a fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based assay that allows both quantitative determination and spatial resolution. E2 rapidly activated calpain in cultured cortical and hippocampal neurons, prominently in dendrites and dendritic spines. E2-induced calpain activation was mediated through mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), as it was completely blocked by MEK inhibitors. It was also calcium-independent, as it was still evident in presence of the calcium chelator, BAPTA-AM. Activation of ERalpha and ERbeta receptors by specific agonists stimulated calpain activity. Finally, the rapid E2-mediated increase in excitability in acute hippocampal slices was prevented by a membrane-permeable calpain inhibitor. Furthermore, E2 treatment of acute hippocampal slices resulted in increased actin polymerization and membrane levels of GluR1 but not GluR2/3 subunits of AMPA receptors; both effects were also blocked by a calpain inhibitor. Our results indicate that E2 rapidly stimulates calpain activity through MAP kinase-mediated phosphorylation, resulting in increased membrane levels of AMPA receptors. These effects could be responsible for E2-mediated increase in neuronal excitability and facilitation of cognitive processes.
ReplyDeleteCurrent methods to monitor cellular ATP do not provide spatial or temporal localization of ATP in single cells in real time or they display imperfect specificity to ATP. Here, we have developed a single cell, Enhanced Acceptor Fluorescence (EAF)-based ATP biosensor to visualize ATP in real time. This biosensor utilizes a modified mimic of the ε-subunits of the Bacillus subtilis F(0)F(1) synthase and is coupled to the EAF fluorophores pairs, GFP and YFP. The sensor was then used to monitor ATP in a heterogeneous glioblastoma multiform cancer cell population. We anticipate that this innovative technology and our better understanding of the ATP machinery will have substantial influence on future translational studies.

ReplyDeleteWhat I really want to know is why is "uscneuro" so obsessed with Sohila?
ReplyDeleteShe fucking graduated 3 yrs ago! Are you still wishing to suck her clit?
Your blog ID states that you're located in New York and you assume that someone in Baudry's lab made this blog. Hmmmm... which gives me reason to believe that HUSSAM JOURDI made this blog. He's the only former lab member that moved to NY and knows of Sohila.
Are you butt hurt that she didn't give you the time of day? Well... jealousy is a disease BITCH so get well soon!
There is no truth to this blog, this blog was created by bullies that are sitting behind a computer singing kubaya and making out with posters of Sohila's face. This is sick blog and it's sad that people can be so hateful.
I'm sorry Sohila for adding my comment to this stupid blog and I hope the blog owner can grow up and take this blog down.
Sohila has helped me a lot in graduate school, she's very intelligent and because she is young and attractive, people are intimated. I hope she becomes a professor really fast, we need more people like her in science.
BTW she wasn't fired from Caltech. She left on her own terms for reasons I don't feel like anyone has the right to know. It's her business so let's keep our noses out of it
ReplyDeleteHey who's on here loooking to hook up? lol hit me up ya'll ;)
ReplyDeleteShe was fired from the Patterson lab for faking her data, just as she faked her data to get out of USC in 2 years.
ReplyDeleteThe reason the USC Neuroscience community is still reading this blog, is because Sohila was simply the most unpleasant person any of us has ever interacted with (and coming from USC, home of unpleasant people, that says a lot).
Dear Hussam Jourdi,
ReplyDeleteI understand you had a bitter experience at USC and that you are clearly a little obsessed with Sohila, but there is no need to attack everyone at USC. USC has amazing and has creative people. They have some of the best research being done there now and for the most part everyone is pretty pleasant.
As far as Sohila being fired from Patterson’s lab, she wasn’t. She left. I know and a lot of faculty at Caltech know about this, since she was the second postdoc in a row to leave the lab. In fact, just prior to Sohila leaving another French postdoc left the lab after only a year and is now at USC.
Patterson forced Sohila to stock lab supplies (coincidentally he also had asked the previous French post-doc to stock lab supplies as well). As a NIH fellow she did not feel that was an appropriate use of her time but was still forced to do it, because “he said so” and despite there being two technicians in the lab. You cant take advantage of Sohila and she is not the submissive type. She’s got American milk in her and will stand up for herself. Of course, Sohila is probably not totally innocent. She was bitter, slamming doors when stocking and no longer participating in the lab meetings, ignoring the lab member and Patterson, just waiting until her contract was over in order to leave. She even spoke to university officials about the situation and the possibility of leaving her fellowship early.
Sohila works really hard, we’ll give her that. I don’t think anyone would disagree whether you hate her or like her. I just don’t think she has level of experimental understanding or has faced the pressure yet to make shit up. If you look at her papers and publications closely, her work was definitely not high risk. In her grad school, her publications were all peer-reviewed and are cited. Plus, looking more closely, she just applied a tried and already validated technique, the calpain FRET probe, to an old already validated hypothesis. The projects were designed to be safe, so I don’t know why she would need to make it up. Plus, Hussam you are on one of her papers as an author and actually was the one that did all of the western blots presented in the figures, so you further validated the conclusions in the work. Everyone in the Baudry lab also know that you even requested to be an author on her other paper as well.
ReplyDeleteAs far as making up stuff in Patterson’s lab. This doesn’t make sense either. The project there was also safe. Sohila only tested whether gestational choline supplements could reverse behavioral disorders in a poly i:C animal model. The poly i:C animal model was already validated and published on (actually there are over 100 papers already on this model) and gestational choline supplementation has already been implicated in alleviating cognitive defects in the second half of gestation. There was no novelty in the project at all, it was just pure grunt work. Plus, she uploaded videos of mice online for us to see cuz they were so funky, these mice were unable to perform tasks at all, were incredibly slow and were almost fatigued. Some of the mice in the videos had self-groomed so much, that they had large patches of hair missing. Can’t image Sohila running around in the middle of the night, shaving mice for the sake of a project. In discussions with her about it, she often mentioned that she was constant disagreement with the lab members, and saw the poly i:c model as an error in metabolism and not in immune response, where choline funneled in rescued the system. If she was accused of making shit up, knowing Sohila and her parents, she would of fought back with full force of her family behind her.
And Hussam, no one from the USC community is on this blog, just you are dude. No one at USC can believe they hired someone like you at Florida State University. I think that they should really reevaluate your application. You are a just a loser, and really creepy, as I am sure your colleagues there are starting to realize it now.
As far as this blog goes, they say all publicity is good publicity anyways. I understand Sohila can be difficult, and even horribly mean particularly to people that she gets the notion is trying taking advantage of her, but to those that are closest to her, she is an alluring presence. Whether you hate her or love her (or obsessed with her), there is something there that is dynamic and electric…probably why she is still relevant to us so many years later.
Hussam bro, rejection is tough and I am sure it burns…but dude get over it.
Peace out y’all
Ps. I do dare you to try to talk shit to her face hussam. You know you can't and you know that you, like many, are fucking scared of her. Rejected, burned and a pussy...that must really suck.
